Stem cell research promises cures for a multitude of diseases, and to advance medicine in certain fields exponentially. Controversy over the use of human embryos to create stem cells has virtually halted ground-breaking research, but nearly all polls reveal that the American public overwhelmingly supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. The federal government should follow California's lead and establish a fund to support the most promising research in the field.
